Rapid City

Rapid has a nice paved trail along the river.

My first experience of riding in Rapid City was at the Black Hills Fat Tire Festival.

George S. Mickelson Trail

The "Mickelson" is an old railroad bed.  The North end of the trail is in Deadwood, SD.  It follows the Burlington Northern line to Edgemont.  Trail surface is crushed gravel.

NOTE:  Brochures that I picked up at a Rest Area/Information Booth show the trails use fee as $2 per day/$10 annual pass -- That has changed to $3 per day/$15 annual pass.

Carry water and snacks.  "One Holers" are each at the trail heads (in Deadwood we had to use the hardware store - in Custer in the Chamber of Commerce).  Food can be found in Deadwood, Hill City, Custer, and a gather in Edgemont (we did not make it into Edgemont).

Check out photos and report from the 2 day ride as part of the Black Hills Fat Tire Festival - 08.  Here's a link to the Mickelson Trail web site.
