I really wanted to take my R&R in Sudney.  So, I waited until my 12th month in country to take R&R - this assured me first choice in destination. Had hoped the weather would be nice in December, but most of the week I was there was cold and rainy.  Had a good time anyway.

There was a harbor cruise, a trip to visit an animal park. There was also a picnic and learning to throw a boomerang. Weather was too cold to spend time on the beach.  Much time was spent just hanging around and touring by myself or with other GIs.

In December 1970, the Sydney Opera House was still under construction - and a topic of much discussion.  I found the Aussies to be very friendly and helpful.  The weather finally broke about the time I was ready to head back to 'Nam.

Hong Kong

The main reason for going to Hong Cong was to purchase my stereo equipment, a couple of suits and camera.  During my tour in "Nam, I had been sending money home every month to be put into saving just for this trip.  I still managed to play "tourist" with trips to the Island and New Territories - including a walk up to the frontier with China.  I got a good deal on my purchases.  Had everything shipped to 'Nam and then put into my hold baggage for shipment home.

Hong Kong was a beautiful city.  Sunsets on the harbor and all the lights on the boats were something to see.  I got a little carried away at times with my new 5 image mirage lens.
