Steamboat Springs was a great trip as a preparation to Estes Park and alterative for Albuquerque. I was able to check out mountain biking in Colorado (did not kill myself) and acclimatized for that altitude. It was nice to have Reuel, Gloria, Don, & Kathie in Steamboat. A good, home cooked meal and conversation. Good to see them again. I hope I did not ruin their meal at The Creekside, showing up in my bike clothes! My first day in Steamboat, I took a bike ride on the Core Trail from my hotel (Holiday Inn) into downtown. I needed a blood draw so stopped by the Yampa Valley Medical Center, along a bike trail/lane.
Next, time to check out the sights. First was Fish Creek Falls. Follow the signs from downtown to the Falls. The Yampa River Botanic Park is open from dawn to dusk. Admission is free. Watch for the sign along Lincoln Avenue - intersection at Trafalgar Dr. Park in the lot of soccer fields and walk to the park. Some of the best views of Steamboat is from the gondola. Photos riding my bike down form the gondola are on bicycling page. After bicycling down, I took the gondola back up the mountain for lunch, more photos and a nice ride down. The next day I took a drive to Steamboat Lake. The park has a nice nature walking trail, a bike trail, and some great scenery.
On my way back. I took a detour up Seedhouse Road for views of the Elk River. My final night in Steamboat, I joined Reuel, Gloria, Don, & Kathie at the Rodeo. I took pictures as long as there was enough light. Unfortunately, that did not allow photographing the bull riding.
